General Health

All pets must be in good general health to visit Country Kennels. Country Kennels will not accept pets exhibiting signs of serious illness, pets with contagious viruses or parasites, or any pet we feel may need veterinary care or supervision. And Country Kennels may not be able to handle geriatric pets or other pets needing significant or special care (please contact us for an evaluation).

Medical Attention

Country Kennels strives to provide a safe, stress-free facility for owners’ pets. However, some pets react differently to new environments and separation from their owners. There is even some risk that pets in the same family may engage in rough play and injure one another when staying together. In non-emergency situations (e.g., continued diarrhea, loss of appetite), we will contact the owner or owner’s designee to discuss the recommended protocol. For emergencies in which urgent care appears needed, at the owner's expense, we will transport the pet to our on-call veterinary clinic and then contact the owner.

Behavioral Problems

Pets showing signs of, or have a history of, aggressive behavior such as biting, snapping, or lunging will be charged an aggressive behavior fee. In extreme cases your dog may be declined.

Parasites

All pets will be checked thoroughly for fleas and ticks. If any are found, that pet will be treated immediately, at the owner’s expense, before being allowed to enter the boarding or pool area.

Personal Items

Please mark all items clearly with your last name on all personal belongings. We cannot be responsible for any item left with your pet.

Treats/Food

We accept most foods and treats. If you are cooking for your pet please put each feeding into zip lock bags (no bones). We prefer your pet’s food to be placed in disposable zip-lock bags. We do not accept any rawhide products or items that may present a risk to your pet while lodging. Personal food bowls and water bowls will not be accepted.

Medications

We can administer oral, topical, and injections medications. Prescription medications should be provided in their respective prescription containers, along with clear written directions. Medications must be kept separate from foods.

Bedding

Blankets and similar bedding are allowed. Beds or stuffed bedding that cannot be laundered using our equipment at Country Kennels is discouraged. Not responsible for lost or destroyed bedding.

Toys

Maximum of 1 toy per pet. Please understand that there is a good risk of misplacing these items due to our daily sanitizing procedures. Country Kennels is not responsible for lost or destroyed toys.

Spaying & Neutering

Your does is not required to be spayed or neutered, but all males over 6 months of age must be neutered to go into group play. Male cats must be neutered to board at Country Kennels.

Kennel Cough – Simplified in Human Terms

You visit a daycare center for your child and find it to be clean, well run, safe, and your child is happy there. Enter another child who happens to be coming down with a cold. This child coughs and sneezes near your child and the particles containing the virus or bacteria move through the air and are inhaled by your child. Nothing humanly possible can stop the spread of this cold unless one of two things happen. First, the child showing signs of the cold is kept home away from other children, or the child is heard to sneeze or cough by a daycare worker and is immediately put into isolation, away from other children. A proper isolation area prevents the air that child is breathing from mixing with the air everyone else is breathing, but any child already exposed is susceptible to the illness as well.

Substitute the word “dog” for “child” in the above paragraph and you have the canine cough scenario. Canine cough is here to stay, and the Bordetella vaccine, although helpful, does not prevent all types. At Country Kennel we take cleanliness and hygiene very seriously, but it does not mean your dog will not get kennel cough at Country Kennels, or any other canine facility. No dog showing signs of illness is permitted to enter our facilities, but a dog may be harboring a virus without showing signs.
